Devasom Khao Lak: A Luxurious Thai Resort Just 80 Minutes From Phuket

Tucked quietly along Thailand’s serene Andaman coastline, Khao Lak remains one of the country’s most underrated beach destinations. While millions flock to Phuket, just an easy 80-minute drive north lies a luxury resort, whispered amongst those who prefer their escapes a little more secluded, a little more soulful.

The resort’s 69 guest rooms and villas are tucked within lush tropical gardens and coconut groves, framed by the Andaman Sea on one side and a serene freshwater lagoon on the other. Every space opens to a picturesque sea view, while the luxury rooms, pool suites, and private pool villas are generously sized, fully equipped, and thoughtfully crafted to echo the charm and ancient architectural heritage of Southeast Asia.

We stayed in the Seaside ‘Pool Paradise’ Suite, where a separate living room and a beautifully styled bedroom offered plenty of space to unwind. The expansive terrace came with its own plunge pool and two private sun loungers overlooking the natural lagoon and the sea. It felt wonderfully secluded and peaceful, with stunning views to wake up to. The suite’s generous layout, timeless décor, spacious vanity area, and gorgeous bathtub made the stay feel effortlessly luxurious.

Another beautiful option is the Beachfront Pool Villa, which offers uninterrupted sea views and direct barefoot access to the beach. Each villa features a private infinity plunge pool with spa jets, a hardwood deck with a large daybed, and an outdoor living area furnished with two sun loungers. Guests can also enjoy in-villa daily breakfast served with a view of the sea.

Two Pools, Two Moods

When you do venture out, the resort offers two distinct pools, each with its own character.

The Main Oceanfront Pool

A sweeping, cinematic view of the Andaman Sea. It’s where the sky opens wide, sunsets melt into water, and guests quietly drift into golden hour with a drink in hand.

The Lagoon Pool

More tranquil, enveloped by nature—perfect for meditative mornings and long, slow swims. Whether you crave atmosphere or solitude, there’s a pool that matches your mood.

A Spa That Knows How to Heal

There are massages, and then there are Thai massages performed by therapists who have truly mastered the craft.The spa at Devasom falls into the latter. We had the Aromatherapy massage and Devasom’s masseuse was skilled and intuitive. 

The resort also offers a thoughtful selection of complimentary activities designed to nourish the body, mind, and spirit. Guests can begin the day with a calming morning yoga flow or experience a guided Himalayan sound healing in the afternoon. 

For something more dynamic, Thai boxing classes and water sport activities offer an energising boost, while rotating mindful workshops, cultural sessions, and seasonal experiences add depth to the stay.

We were lucky to attend “Nora Fit”, a fitness class that adapts the traditional southern Thai Nora dance into exercises that focus on breath, body awareness, and ancient wisdom. 

Though the activities change, the intention remains constant: to enrich, connect, and elevate the overall retreat experience.

A Culinary Story Worth Traveling For

It’s unusual for a resort to have one Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. Devasom has two which is a testament to its culinary ambition and integrity. 

Breakfast at Devasom is a standout experience, offering an impressive spread that blends authentic local flavours with international favourites. Each morning features a rotating selection of Thai dishes inspired by regional ingredients, alongside a wide array of Asian and Western options to suit guests from around the world. 

There are live cooking stations, a curated list of specialty à la carte dishes, and beautifully prepared classics. The tom yum, in particular, was a highlight—simple, fragrant, and truly authentic. And of course, all the essentials are there too: freshly baked breads, an egg station, tropical fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, and more. It’s a breakfast that feels both generous and thoughtfully crafted, setting the tone for a perfect start to the day.

Takola Restaurant

Takola Restaurant is renowned for its authentic Thai flavours, bringing together local recipes, heritage ingredients, and refined cooking techniques to create soulful, honest dishes rooted in Southern Thai tradition. 

Named in honour of the ancient Takola port town, the restaurant celebrates regional culinary wisdom, using fresh ingredients sourced from local communities and time-honoured recipes passed down through generations. 

A must-try is the Southern Thai crab curry that is rich, aromatic, and customisable in spice level to suit every palate.

Devasom Beach Grill & Bar

Fresh seafood, wood-fired specialties, and a breezy open-air setting overlooking one of Khao Lak’s most stunning seascapes make dining at Devasom Beach Grill a true highlight. We especially loved the Devasom Citrus Salad and the beautifully grilled fresh catches of the day and each dish, right down to the desserts, was exceptional. The restaurant also hosts themed dinners, such as grill nights, so it’s worth checking with the team during your stay.

The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Seafood lovers can enjoy seared scallops, crispy calamari, lobster, crab, and a selection of locally caught fish like sea bass. Meat enthusiasts will appreciate the choice cuts of Australian Black Angus steak, while those craving Italian comforts can indulge in pastas and the must-try wood-fired pizzas served straight from the oven. Lighter options include refreshing salads such as the Devasom citrus salad, which was a burst of fresh flavours in every bite. 

What truly sets Devasom Khao Lak apart is its people. The entirely Thai team brings an unmistakable sincerity and warmth to every interaction, offering a level of care that feels both genuine and deeply personal. They take the time to learn guests’ names, preferences, and stories. These small gestures that create a sense of belonging and transform a simple holiday into something meaningful. This is more than good service; it is hospitality delivered straight from the heart.
