We experience Anantara Siam Bangkok with its refreshed rooms, destination dining and an impressive wellness offering
Bangkok has no shortage of glossy hotels, but Anantara Siam Bangkok offers something many newer properties cannot: more than four decades of history and a location that makes exploring the city remarkably easy. With BTS Ratchadamri steps away and CentralWorld, Gaysorn Village and Siam within easy reach, it is a practical base for a Bangkok holiday, yet feels surprisingly calm once inside.
We recently stayed at the hotel following its USD 50 million transformation, which has renewed all 335 rooms and suites, along with the spa, restaurants and event spaces. Yet the changes have not stripped away the Thai art, architecture and garden courtyards for which this grand dame has long been known. If anything, they strengthen its identity as a living reminder of Bangkok’s deep cultural roots and a peaceful retreat in the middle of a busy city.
Behind the stately entrance, soaring columns, hand-painted murals, koi ponds and tropical greenery create an immediate sense of escape. Bangkok’s traffic, shopping centres and busy streets remain just outside, but the hotel feels comfortably removed from them.
Over 40 Years of History, Art and Architecture
American architect George Wimberley designed Anantara Siam Bangkok, which opened on 15 April 1983. His architectural vision is complemented by the work of Thai artist Ajarn Paiboon Suwannakudt, whose hand-painted silk mural beside the Grand Staircase depicts the coronation of King Rama I and the founding of Bangkok in 1782.
Painted in 1982, the mural immediately pulls you in. Its scale, rich colours and remarkably detailed scenes are difficult to take in with a single glance, and we found ourselves stopping to look at it every time we crossed the lobby. There is always another figure, procession or cultural reference waiting to be noticed.
The story continues overhead. Ajarn Paiboon also painted the lobby’s restored ceiling fresco on the 200th anniversary of Chakri Day. Its 19 panels depict “Heavens in Thai Thought”, filling the soaring ceiling with figures and scenes drawn from Thai beliefs and artistic traditions. Between the mural, frescoes, columns, carved wood and silk details, the lobby has an immediate sense of theatre. It invites guests to pause and look around rather than simply pass through on the way to their rooms.
The recent transformation has preserved these defining features while introducing warmer colours, handcrafted detailing and contemporary marble bathrooms. New accommodation includes Garden Pool Suites and villas surrounded by tropical greenery, as well as a
two-bedroom Jim Thompson Explorer Suite inspired by a traditional Thai summer home. The hotel may have changed, but the art and cultural storytelling that gave it its identity remain impossible to miss.
Anantara Siam Bangkok Rooms and Suites
Anantara Siam Bangkok has 335 rooms and suites, beginning with the 42 sqm Deluxe and Siam Rooms and extending to large multi-bedroom residences with private pools. The renewed interiors retain the hotel’s Thai character through teak, silk, artwork and rich colour, while improved lighting, modern fittings and marble bathrooms make them considerably more practical.
The newly renovated Anantara Suite spans 84 sqm and includes a separate living area and
Kasara Executive Lounge privileges. Beautiful panelling frames the king-sized bed, while Thai accents bring warmth to the contemporary interiors. A work desk positioned beside the window overlooks the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and city skyline. Other thoughtful additions include a Nespresso machine, Smeg appliances and a reliably good Dyson hairdryer.
The bed is exceptionally comfortable, while the generous marble bathroom has a deep soaking tub, separate rain shower and TOTO smart toilet – one luxury you’ll quickly get quite used to. Everything feels plush and luxurious, making the suite a welcome retreat after long days spent walking and exploring around Bangkok.
Why Anantara Siam Bangkok’s Location Works So Well
Location is one of Anantara Siam Bangkok’s biggest advantages. The hotel sits in the Ratchaprasong shopping and entertainment district, directly beside BTS Ratchadamri. Guests can reach the station within minutes and travel across the city without relying entirely on taxis or sitting in Bangkok’s traffic.
Gaysorn Village is approximately five minutes away on foot, while CentralWorld is around eight minutes away. The Erawan Shrine can be reached in about three minutes, and Siam Paragon and Central Embassy are also close enough to visit without a complicated journey. Lumpini Park is around a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
If your agenda is to shop in Bangkok, the hotel location is designed for it. CentralWorld, Platinum Fashion Mall and the stores around Siam are easy to reach, while BTS offers a simple option when traffic becomes heavy.
One of the loveliest parts of the location is passing the Erawan Shrine each day, just a few minutes from the hotel. Amid the traffic and shopping centres, worshippers sit quietly, chant and make offerings of flowers, incense and fruit. Watching these daily rituals brings an unexpected sense of peace and offers a beautiful glimpse of Bangkok’s spiritual life before the day has even begun.
Breakfast at Anantara Siam Bangkok
Food plays a significant role in the Anantara Siam experience, with nine restaurants and bars covering Thai, Italian, Japanese, South American and steakhouse menus.
Breakfast at Parichart Court is an experience in itself. The buffet is arranged around a light-filled indoor garden, with tropical greenery and a koi pond, creating a calm backdrop. The setting feels open and peaceful, encouraging guests to take their time rather than rush through the first meal of the day.
The selection is wide enough to choose an entirely different breakfast each morning, so it never feels repetitive. Alongside eggs cooked to order, pastries and familiar Western options are sushi, Thai and Indian dishes, dim sums, shakshuka, charcuterie and even a dedicated Mediterranean section.
The fruit display is the one we’d return for. Arranged to resemble a colourful Thai market, it presents a generous selection of tropical fruit, including four different varieties of mango. Bite-sized portions of mango sticky rice are also available, offering just enough of the classic Thai dessert to enjoy at breakfast without committing to a full serving.
Dining at Anantara Siam Bangkok
Begin the evening at AQUA, the hotel’s secret garden bar. Named one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2026, AQUA is led by Head Mixologist Ryan Dela Vega, who has overseen its cocktail programme since 2022. The drinks menu appears minimalist, but each cocktail brings together layered flavours, technical preparation and unexpected ingredients. Cocktails can also be paired with dishes from the hotel’s surrounding restaurants, although stopping for a drink before dinner at Spice Market feels like the natural way to experience it.
Designed to resemble an old Thai spice shop, Spice Market draws on regional recipes from across Thailand, including street-food favourites and traditional desserts. The kitchen is led by Chef Punn, Akkawin Pitrachart, with spice levels adjusted to individual preferences and staff ready to guide diners through the menu.
Highlights included the pomelo salad with scallops, which balanced sweetness, citrus and heat, and the Nua Pu Pad Prik Gub Sator, made with stir-fried jumbo crab meat, yellow chilli and bitter bean. The black tiger prawns tossed with chilli, garlic, bell pepper and kaffir lime were another favourite, arriving plump, aromatic and full of flavour.
Biscotti offers a change of pace with Italian food served beside an open kitchen. Chef Giuseppe and his team draw inspiration from across Italy, moving from northern recipes to the seafood and citrus flavours of his native Sicily. The pizzas have light, delightfully chewy crusts, while the freshly made pastas are beautifully tender and seem to melt in the mouth.
Lunch has a peppy, energetic atmosphere, helped by the activity of the open kitchen and a dining room that always seems to be in motion. For anyone entertaining friends, family or business guests in Bangkok, Biscotti is an easy place to recommend: smart enough to feel special, yet lively and relaxed enough for a long lunch.
Other dining options include Japanese food and sushi at Shintaro, premium steaks at Madison Steak Avenue and South American flavours at Guilty Bangkok. Guests can also stop at Mocha & Muffins for coffee and pastries, have afternoon tea in The Lobby, order light meals beside the pool at The Terrace or book the hotel’s popular Sunday brunch.
The Anantara Spa Experience
Anantara Spa draws on Thai healing traditions alongside modern therapies, with a menu covering massages, facials, body treatments and personalised wellness rituals. The spa has two couple suites, a deluxe couples' suite and four single treatment suites, each with a private shower. Selected rooms also include a Roman-style bathtub or private steam room. Manicure, pedicure and waxing facilities are available, along with poolside massage services.
The Anantara Signature Massage combines Eastern and Western techniques with flowing movements and the spa’s signature oil blend. The treatment works across areas of muscular tension to support circulation, before finishing with reflexology to encourage full-body relaxation.
The experience was beautifully calming, with a therapist who understood pressure points and adjusted the treatment intuitively. Tea served before and after the massage provided a thoughtful beginning and close, turning the treatment into a complete wind-down at the end of the day.
Beyond the spa, the hotel’s health club now includes Technogym equipment, a Pilates studio, an infrared sauna, steam room, ice plunge pool, ice fountain and experience shower. There is also an outdoor wellness area for Muay Thai and functional training.
Bangkok LIFE – Longevity & Biohacking Hub
During our stay, we visited Bangkok LIFE Longevity & Biohacking Hub, part of LIFE Longevity by Anantara, a collection of wellness and longevity destinations developed by Minor Hotels. Located a short walk away inside The St. Regis Bangkok, the centre combines longevity science, health optimisation, aesthetics, holistic wellbeing and traditional healing.
The two-storey, 16,000 sq ft centre includes consultation and treatment rooms, an advanced aesthetics centre, IV lounge, cryotherapy chamber, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, hammam and hydrotherapy circuit with herbal steam and hot and cold vitality pools.
We were most intrigued by the OligoScan heavy-metal and mineral screening. This quick, non-invasive assessment uses a spectrophotometer against different areas of the palm to screen for trace elements, minerals and possible heavy-metal accumulation. The results indicated low levels of zinc and vitamin C, followed by a consultation explaining the findings and suggested dietary changes.*
A VISIA Facial Analysis followed, using non-invasive imaging to assess UV spots, sun damage, wrinkles, pigmentation, pore size and porphyrins, which can indicate bacterial activity. The scan offers a detailed view of concerns that may not be fully visible on the surface, allowing the dermatologist to recommend treatments suited to the skin’s condition.
The results led into the Bespoke Super-Lift facial, which combines skincare with facial massage techniques. It began with the Lift Up Massage to stimulate the skin, followed by Margy’s Signature Massage and an Extra Firming Mask. A highly concentrated collagen mask completed the treatment, leaving the skin hydrated, smoother and noticeably refreshed.
The combination of diagnostic technology and hands-on treatment made the session feel far more targeted than a conventional facial. The scans provided useful context, while the massage and masks turned the appointment into a relaxing treatment with a sense of purpose.
Although the diagnostic scans take only a few minutes and individual treatments can fit neatly into an hour or so, it is worth setting aside the better part of a day for Bangkok LIFE. Allow time to use the wellness facilities, move between consultations and treatments, and immerse yourself in the full experience without watching the clock. We only wished we had left more room in our schedule to enjoy it properly.
*As with any wellness screening, unexpected deficiencies or health findings are best confirmed through standard medical tests before making significant dietary or supplement changes.
The Pool and Leisure Facilities at Anantara Siam Bangkok
There is plenty to do at Anantara Siam Bangkok without leaving the hotel. The 25-metre outdoor pool sits among tropical plants, with loungers and parasols arranged around the water. The greenery and quiet garden setting give it more of a resort feel than expected from such a central Bangkok hotel. Drinks and light meals are available from The Terrace, which overlooks the pool and gardens.
For a more cultural experience, the Spice Spoons Thai cooking class introduces guests to local ingredients and traditional techniques before they prepare a selection of Thai dishes. It offers a hands-on break from sightseeing and works particularly well for families or anyone interested in taking more than photographs home from Bangkok.
Families also have access to babysitting services and in-room children’s amenities. Larger suites and multi-bedroom accommodation provide useful extra space for longer stays.
VIVID Bangkok is located on the hotel premises for guests interested in recovery and wellness treatments. The medically supervised IV drip bar offers personalised infusions designed around concerns such as hydration, energy and post-travel recovery. Guests should discuss suitability with its qualified practitioners before booking a treatment.
The Anantara Siam Bangkok Experience
Anantara Siam Bangkok offers the rare feeling of stepping back into a more gracious era of travel without giving up modern comfort. The painted ceilings, Grand Staircase mural, shaded courtyards, teak interiors and tropical gardens carry more than 40 years of stories, while the renewed rooms, spa and restaurants bring the experience firmly into the present.
The hotel’s sense of luxury comes through in the details. It is found in the quiet garden paths, the exceptionally comfortable beds, the care taken over breakfast, the intuitive spa treatments and the ease of returning to such a peaceful setting after a busy day in Bangkok.
Combined with its central location and warm Thai hospitality, it creates a distinctly Anantara experience that guests will want to return to, and the kind of stay that can turn a first visit into lasting loyalty.
Tips for Making the Most of Your Anantara Siam Bangkok Stay
- Join the Hotel’s Cultural Walk: The guided hotel tour explains its traditional Thai house-inspired design, historic murals and architectural details. It is short, highly informative and takes you back into a different time in Bangkok.
- Make Time for Breakfast: Allow at least an hour for the Parichart Court breakfast. The luxurious spread, indoor garden setting and Thai market-style fruit display are worth slowing down for, even if lunch becomes unnecessary.
- Use BTS Ratchadamri or the Elevated Walkways: The station is steps from the hotel, while Bangkok’s elevated walkways make it easier to reach CentralWorld and the surrounding malls without dealing with traffic.
- Group the Old City Sights: Visit the Grand Palace, Wat Pho’s Reclining Buddha, Wat Arun and Pak Khlong Talat flower market on the same day.
- Save Chinatown for the Evening: Browse the gold and jewellery shops before Yaowarat Road comes alive with street-food stalls after dark.
- Plan Longer Excursions Separately: Chatuchak Weekend Market needs several hours, while floating markets and UNESCO-listed Ayutthaya work best as dedicated day trips.
- Visit SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World with Children: Located inside Siam Paragon, the aquarium is easy to reach from the hotel and offers a useful indoor family activity during Bangkok’s hottest or rainiest hours.
- Leave Time for the Hotel: Keep a free afternoon for the pool, spa and gardens, followed by cocktails at AQUA Bar. There are also a number of daily activities that you can participate in including Thai floral garland making and sundown rituals. For a full-body renewal, make the time for Bangkok LIFE Longevity & Biohacking Hub next door.
