The latest sunglasses trends borrow directly from sports: ski goggles and cycling shades have found themselves in the lookbooks this year, in the form of curved frames and chunkier constructions. Techno visors and futuristic looks still reign supreme, but smaller glasses have been catching up, with barely perceptible frames and bright lenses in pink or yellow.
If you’re looking for a new pair of sunglasses, take it from us: everything is in style right now. The cat-eye silhouette is coming back, as are 90s model-off-duty mini glasses and massive bug-eye shades. Everything is in, for both men and women, whatever your taste. But if you really want to know, we’ve looked through Instagram pages and runway collections to bring you three definitive categories of trendy sunglasses.

Shield-Style Sunglasses: Sporty, Dramatic, Chic
Shield sunglasses meet at just the right corner of functional and stylish: they block out the sun, protect your eyes from pollutants, and are big enough to make a statement. To make the best of your shields, don’t style your hair too much and let them do the talking. We’ve chosen three pairs that are fashionable enough for city wear.

Bolon Dune Sunglasses
Designed in Italy, perfected for urban wear, Bolon’s SS25 Collection catches nearly all the trends this year in a neat little selection. Among them, the Dune sunglasses in Shiny Black are both futuristic and versatile.
They’re more suited to everyday wear than some of the wraparound sunglasses you’ll see on this list, keeping a curved silhouette on the top and bottom. Their slender frame and thin profile make them easy to wear. Yet, they stretch out past the temples, making them striking and futuristic. The only logos are sleek silver “B”’s on the temples, which don’t take away from their sleek profile. Made from high-quality TR, they’ll withstand anything you throw at them.
Bolon's newest retail store at Waterway Point carries the full SS25 range: the Sun Collection includes every trend on this list, plus more like aviator glasses. The store carries both sunglasses and prescription glasses, and every pair can be customised to fit your head in-store.
Shop them online or at the new Bolon Eyewear retail store: located at 83 Punggol Central, Waterway Point, #01-20, West Wing, Singapore 828761.

Kuboraum E50 Sunglasses
Kuboraum’s sleek, frameless E50 sunglasses are made interesting by their shape: the Berlin-founded, Italian-manufactured eyewear brand offers nothing but quirky lens shapes, including the punk-rock Mask E21 Crossovers. In contrast, the E50 sunglasses are almost wearable, but their abstract design lends itself easily to the relaxed, edgy “Berlin Look”. You won’t have to wear all black with them on. Keep it simple so they stand out, or pair them with geometric jewellery.

Acne Studios Frame Sunglasses
These sunglasses are a cross between ski goggles and bug-eyed 1960s glasses: they’re just one of the many things about ski fashion that have hit the mainstream, like boots over leggings or big puffer bags.
Streetwear designer Acne Studios has perfected the look, with frames that curve over the sides of the face that stand out when the light hits them. They’re bold in construction and colour (there is an all-black colourway and a colourway with pink frames), but minimalist in design: unless you look behind the temples, there’s not a logo in sight.

Bright-Coloured Sunglasses: See the World Through Rose-Tinted Lenses
Bright-coloured sunglasses have long been a staple in sports: different lens colours enhance your vision in different conditions. To choose a pair, don’t just consider which colours you look best in: think about what conditions you plan to wear your sunglasses in (indoors or outdoors?), and how you’d like to boost your vision. Of course, you can just go right ahead and pick your favourite colour.

Gucci Black Oversized Wraparound Sunglasses
Between these and the Acne Studios glasses, you may be noticing a trend. If you’re a fan of big frames, the Gucci Black Oversized Wraparound Sunglasses are for you if you’d like them to be visible from space.
While they have less of an avant-garde look than the Acne Studios glasses, the Gucci sunglasses are more rounded and more retro. Gold detailing on the temples make them a little more extravagant and suited to occasion wear. Most importantly, the bright pink lenses reduce eye strain in bright lighting, sharpen contrast in low lighting, and calm you down.

Loewe Seashell Sunglasses
Loewe’s Seashell Sunglasses are available in three colourways, but why choose plain silver when you can have yellow? Unlike the previous pairs on this list, the Seashell Sunglasses have a very light construction, with wiry light metal frames and a very minimalist profile.
Yellow lenses help to block blue light, common indoors and from devices: this helps you relax, get better sleep at night, and improves your vision in foggy conditions. Plus, yellow is a neutral colour, so it’s incredibly easy to style. Throw on an accessory like a beanie or bandana in that calf-brown colour that’s everywhere right now, and you’re good to go.

Akila Rio Sunglasses
The Rio sunglasses from Los Angeles-based designer Akila have a distinct 90s look to them: they’re the more summery cousin of the black mini sunglasses on Keanu in The Matrix. They’re guaranteed to give any outfit a little edge, softened by tones like cherry blossom pink and pistachio green.
We like the green ones best: they’re good to use regardless of the weather, and more suited to everyday wear. Green lenses are “neutral” lenses, which means they transmit colour just as accurately as grey lenses and cause less distortion. These sunglasses go with literally anything, but we prefer straight lines and bold prints.

Cat-Eye Sunglasses: A Timeless, Trendy Shape
Don’t panic: these are not the triangular sunglasses of the mid-2010s. The cat-eye shape reinvents itself every decade, and is back with us this year: these have a more organic shape, subtle lift, and add definition to the face. (Yes, men can wear cat-eye glasses too: they’re rebellious and entertaining when paired with masculine styles.)

Chimi 06 Core Sunglasses
We knew we had to look north when searching for sunglasses, and Swedish eyewear designer Chimi has the answers. Designed in Stockholm, home of the chic black Fashion Week glasses, the Chimi 06 Core Sunglasses are as close to a universal shape as one gets.
The 06 Cores are undeniably cat-eye glasses, but have squared corners: they look good on any face shape from masculine to feminine. With light bevel details and softly rounded frames, they pair with any outfit, can be worn anywhere, and are nonchalantly fashionable. The frames and temples are made from acetate, so you can bend them to fit your head. They also come in six colours, from classic black to deep green.

Jacquemus Curvo Sunglasses
Jacquemus’ Curvo sunglasses have a sharper, sportier look than the Chimi 06 Cores: they come in four colours, but we like the Dark Brown Matte ones. Their deep tinted lenses, integrated nose pads and bold, shine-free look make them a goggles-like, futuristic take on cat-eye glasses. Made from acetate, with a subtle “JACQUEMUS” logo on the temple, these glasses are also manufactured in Japan: the gold standard for technical expertise. Though they have a sleek profile, they’re hardy in construction and stand up to the elements.

Dries Van Noten Tortoiseshell Oval Sunglasses
Tortoiseshell will never go out of style, and Dries Van Noten proves it: the Tortoiseshell Oval Sunglasses incorporate two “retro” design elements, but stay refreshingly modern. The deep green frames resist colour distortion while keeping glare out of your eyes, the subtle upward curve of the lenses define your features, and the chunky frames add a little edge. You can wear them straight into fall, where tortoiseshell-adjacent brown shades come back into fashion every single year.
