The Tatcha Matcha Glow Ritual: A Journey to Clear, Balanced and Radiant Skin
Clear pores. Stronger skin. Weightless hydration.
Southeast Asia, where high humidity, oiliness and pollution-induced dullness can challenge the skin over and over again, Tatcha introduces the Matcha Glow Ritual, an exquisite 3-step Japanese-inspired ritual that nurtures skin's longevity while perfectly balancing tropical conditions.
It is easy, in a climate like ours, to think of skincare as damage control but Tatcha's new ritual asks for something different. Three deliberate steps, each drawn from a distinct pocket of Japanese tradition, moving from Kyoto's tea ceremonies to Okinawa's longevity science to the quiet philosophy of wa, or harmony. The result is a small, repeatable act of care, one that happens to be backed by clinical numbers strong enough to satisfy even the most skeptical of us.

Step One: The Matcha Foam Cleanse, Clarity, Whisked in
The Matcha Foam Cleanse ($62) takes its cue from the Awa Sengan technique, the traditional Japanese practice of whisking a cleanser with water into an impossibly fine foam before it ever touches the skin. The logic is tactile as much aesthetic with an airy, ultra-fine lather that can move through pores with less friction than a heavier gel, cleansing thoroughly without the tightness that so often follows.
Ceremonial-grade matcha, sourced from Uji-Tawara in Kyoto, anchors the formula and lends it an antioxidant edge that helps calm visible redness. Green clay does the heavier lifting on oil and impurities, while prebiotic inulin drawn from chicory root works to support the skin's microbiome. An increasingly important consideration for anyone dealing with blemish-prone or reactive skin in a humid climate.
The numbers back up the ritual with 96% of participants in a clinical testing seeing an improvement in excess oil and the appearance of pores after just one week, with the same proportion reporting a reduction in visible redness.

Step Two: The Tatcha Longevity Serum
If the cleanse is about clarity in the moment, the Longevity Serum ($125 for 30ml) is about clarity over time. Its foundation is the Okinawa Cellescence Complex, developed by scientists at the Tatcha Institute of Tokyo and inspired by nuchi-gusui — the philosophy, native to Okinawa. Here, that idea is translated into skin-evening shikuwasa lime, barrier-strengthening noni juice, and exfoliating shell ginger, three botanicals with real roots in Okinawan tradition.
The target is cellular senescence, the so-called "zombie cells" that, as they accumulate, secrete inflammatory molecules and drive the chronic, low-grade inflammation known as inflammaging. Left unchecked, this process undermines both skin's resilience and its ability to renew itself. The serum's bio-active lipids, drawn from the sashi-kusa flower, work at a deeper level to calm oxidative stress and support the skin's own collagen and elastin, while a pro-AHA prebiotic keeps surface cell turnover moving.
The result, per in-vitro testing: a 55% reduction in aging senescent cell biomarkers, a number that puts real weight behind the promise of firmer, visibly more resilient skin. The scent is a blend of Japanese shikuwasa lime and bergamot, softened by pine and petitgrain, evoking. A fresh breath of forest air by the sea.

Step Three: The Tatcha Water Cream, Hydration Without the Heaviness
The ritual closes with Tatcha's signature Water Cream ($117 for 50ml), an oil-free gel formula built specifically for climates where a heavy moisturizer can feel like the wrong idea entirely. Its water-burst texture delivers what the brand calls three-times hydration instantly, while working over time to visibly refine pores and smooth texture.
The ingredients here include a BHA alternative called Hadasei-3, formulated to refine pores and reduce pore count; multi-molecular-weight glycerin to reduce water loss and reinforce the skin barrier; and a wild rose and azelaic acid alternative to visibly tighten pores while soothing the skin. Underlying all of it is the concept of wa (harmony) which Tatcha treats as the guiding principle for every moisturiser it develops, on the belief that skin's ideal state is one of balance between oil, hydration and microbiome.
The clinical timeline is where the Water Cream makes its case most persuasively: 97% of panelists showed improvement in clogged and enlarged pores after one week, 100% saw a reduction in excess oil, and 100% reported improved skin smoothness and texture in the same period. By two weeks, skin barrier function had improved by 27%.

The Ritual: An Extension of Tacha’s Brand Story
None of this exists in isolation from Tatcha's own origin story. The brand traces back to 2008, when founder Vicky Tsai encountered classical Japanese beauty rituals in Kyoto while seeking relief from acute dermatitis, an encounter that, by her own account, changed the course of her life and led her to found Tatcha the following year.
The grounding shows up in the ritual's structure: each step borrows from a different regional tradition, but all three are unified by the same instinct. That of skincare, done with intention.
Tatcha’s Matcha Glow Ritual is available at Sephora.sg and Sephora Singapore stores islandwide.

Yes. The Matcha Foam Cleanse was specifically developed for sensitive, oily, and blemish-prone skin, using a gentle foaming technique that removes impurities without stripping the skin's natural barrier or disrupting its pH.
The three steps are designed to work as a system — cleanse, treat, hydrate — with each product building on the last. That said, each can be used on its own; the Longevity Serum and Water Cream, for instance, layer easily into an existing routine if you're not ready to commit to the full ritual.
Timelines vary by product. The Water Cream delivers 3x hydration instantly upon application, with 97% of users seeing improved pores within one week. The Matcha Foam Cleanse shows visible improvement in oil and pore appearance within one week, while the Longevity Serum's cellular benefits, including a 55% reduction in ageing senescent cell biomarkers are measured through in-vitro testing over time.
Matcha itself appears as a key ingredient in the Matcha Foam Cleanse, sourced from Uji-Tawara in Kyoto. The Longevity Serum and Water Cream draw on different Japanese-inspired ingredient traditions, Okinawan longevity botanicals and the philosophy of wa (harmony), respectively with matcha serving as the ritual's unifying name and inspiration rather than an ingredient in every step.
