Supercars: Women in First Gear

Let’s celebrate these 5 ladies who have all the mileage as female supercar drivers

Thought only men were into fast cars? Think again! These women don’t just own and drive supercars, they are knowledgeable and passionate about them too.

1. Lora Christelle Lim

Lora is a luxury lifestyle blogger based in Singapore. She and her family together own various supercars - Fiat 500C Pop, Mercedes-Benz CLS Sports Coupe, Ferrari 360 Spider, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, and Audi Q7.

Vanilla Luxury: What made you decide to get a supercar?

Lora: My husband and I genuinely enjoy driving them as the feeling is thrilling and really special. Every drive in our Ferrari or Lamborghini is always very enjoyable as we love having the car top down and letting our hair get blown in the wind while playing nice cool music.

Vanilla Luxury: What’s the best comment you’ve gotten about your car?

Lora: I received the award for "Best Lamborghini" at the annual Auto Italia Canberra 2016 for my yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. The award was given based on strict judging on how well each car is maintained as well as voting by popularity.

Vanilla Luxury: What is your most memorable supercar experience?

Lora: When I drove my Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder up Snowy Mountains to ski at Perisher Ski Valley.

2. Natasha Asok

Natasha is a stylish real estate investor in Singapore and owns this gorgeous red Ferrari California.

Vanilla Luxury: What made you decide to get a supercar?

Natasha: A supercar to me, represents power and strength. My father has a vast collection of cars including the Lamborghini Aventador, Bentley Mulsanne and the Rolls Royce Phantom. I decided that the Ferrari California would be a nice addition to our collection. So you could say it's in the genes!

Vanilla Luxury: Besides cars, what else are you passionate about?

Natasha: Architecture. Similar to cars, architecture present the perfect marriage of form and function. For me, architecture is deep sensory experience. Fast cars give me the same stimulation with the rich smell of genuine leather to the feel of the seats against my body and the sound of the revving engine.

Vanilla Luxury: What is the sexiest feature in your supercar?

Natasha: The sexiest feature is what lies under the bonnet! A mid-front mounted 4.3L V8 engine. It delivers power yet comfort which is ideal for busy city roads. The California's performance is a near perfect compromise between being that of a track oriented sports car and a comfortable sedan which is perfect for lady drivers. Like a woman, the California epitomises the comforting strength of a quiet presence.

3. Shirley Kuan

Shirley is housewife who enjoys a drive in her Bentley GT 400 in Singapore.

Vanilla Luxury: What are the factors you considered when buying your supercar?

Shirley: I chose my Bentley model based on price, performance and comfort of the car.

Vanilla Luxury: Besides cars, what else are you passionate about?

Shirley: I am passionate about art, especially sculptures and paintings. My husband and I like to collect paintings.

Vanilla Luxury: What is the coolest feature in your supercar?

Shirley: I love the in-built massage seats that come with the car.

4. Swati Bagga

Swati is a Director Marketing of Operations with SB Group of Companies in New Delhi, India. She is the first and only female Ferrari owner India with two models - Ferrari California T. and Ferrari 458 Italia. She also owns the Jaguar F Type SC.

Vanilla Luxury: What are the factors to consider when buying a supercar?

Swati: In India, some factors are a must to consider; the ground clearance of the car considering the road conditions and if the car has a lifter option; whether there is a proper workshop for servicing and software updates.

Vanilla Luxury: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

Swati: The biggest risk I have taken was driving the Koenigsegg Agera on a test drive in India a few years ago. The car comes with a very expensive price tag and we know the policy, “if broken, its always considered sold”.

Vanilla Luxury: Is there any downside to owning or driving a supercar?

Swati: Yes, the parts are very costly and maintenance cost is very high. The fuel is also special that we get at very few outlets in metro cities called 97 octane by BPCL India. It's basically a white elephant but to me no price is higher than my passion.

5. Princess Beejaksharee Varman of Chamba

Beejaksharee is a princess hailing from the state of Himachal Pradesh in India and drives around the 2008, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera.

Vanilla Luxury: How do you decide which supercar to purchase?

Beejaksharee: I visited all of the available dealers at that point of time but the Gallardo Superleggera was absolutely exceptional! After test driving it, I experienced why this is car is Lamborghini's best-selling model.

Vanilla Luxury: Besides cars, what else are you passionate about?

Beejaksharee: I love horse riding and jewellery.

Vanilla Luxury: What is the coolest feature in your supercar?

Beejaksharee: The lightweight carbon fibre interior and exterior makes the car super fast, and the high-perofrmance exhaust system has a stunning sound.
