Magic tricks, laughs and spontaneous audience moments – get ready to be gob-smacked, Singapore
We headed to Sands Theatre for Now You See Me Live, curious to see how a blockbuster magic franchise would translate onto a large stage in Singapore. What we got was a slick, high-energy spectacle packed with tricks, humour and four international illusionists, or better known as The Horsemen.
Based on the global Now You See Me films, this version takes the cinematic illusions off the screen and onto a large performing arts stage with flamboyant tricks, humour, and a cast of four international illusionists known collectively as The Horsemen.
This is not the kind of close-up magic you expect to watch from a table. The four magicians, inspired by the film’s “Horsemen”, command the entire theatre with grand illusions and tightly choreographed sets. The ensemble has performed in thousands of shows across hundreds of cities, including sell-out residencies on Broadway and in Las Vegas, leaving audiences spellbound and questioning the very limits of possibility.

A Show for Fans of Big Magic and Theatre
A night at Sands Theatre always carries a sense of occasion, and this one was no different. Snack queues moved quickly, and before stepping inside, each guest was invited to pick four cards from a mixed pile. At that point, we were already wondering: simple souvenir, or part of something bigger?
If you’ve watched the films, you’ll recognise the mischief and theatrical swagger. The live version borrows that energy but leans far more into spectacle than storyline.
But that is largely where the similarities end. On stage, the focus is pure impact at the individual level. While one scene might feel intimate, the next suddenly expands to fill the entire theatre with a huge visual surprise. We found ourselves swinging between hushed concentration and synced auditorium gasps. Yes, some were tricks and others drew on lighting and effects, but more often than not, you were left with a sense of wonder. In a world where we question anything magical, it was a delight to share it with several in the same theatre, even if just for a few moments.

Big Tricks, Plenty of Surprises
Each of the “Four Horsemen” brings a distinct style to the stage, and the pacing keeps their sets moving briskly from one to the next. At one point, an iPhone met a blender in a way that had the audience visibly squirming, thanks to mastermind Matthew Pomeray. Moments later, Gabriella Lester had us holding our breath as she locked herself inside a tiny safe.
Our favourite set was Pablo Cánovas or the “Heir of Illusion” vanishing from a chair and appearing in the least expected of places. Gasps of delight, guaranteed!
And then there’s Andrew Basso, the renowned Escapologist who does a rendition of Houdini’s Water Torture Cell—a more intense, edge-of-seat energy to the night.
Amid the high gizmos, laser lights and pulsing sound, there is a clear desire to connect. Every few sets, someone is pulled into the spotlight, and often, the entire auditorium feels involved. In a room full of strangers, there is something powerful about reacting together in real time. From tricks that leave you asking ‘how did that happen?’ to breathtaking illusions, this is unlike any magic show we’ve experienced before. Now You See Me Live thrives because it becomes part of the audience, celebrating that shared spark between you, me and thousands in one room.

Is Now You See Me Live for Families?
With its fast pace, big visuals, and playful sense of wonder, Now You See Me Live feels perfect for kids 8 and up, teens, and adults who love spectacle. The runtime is 120 minutes, with a 15-minute intermission, so parents may want to consider younger kids' attention spans, but for families with tweens and up, it could be a very fun night out.
Hot tip! Grab snacks and bathroom breaks before the lights go down or during intermission. Once the illusions start, you won’t want to miss a single beat.
