Top 5 Winter Destinations

Winter is the world’s favourite season to both love and hate. Some of us love the cold and some of us hate it with a passion. With the Christmas season and 2016 fast approaching, where are you going to find yourself this holiday? Here are my top 6 winter destinations this December:

1. Palawan, Philippines

Palawan Island in the Philippines is not only a dream destination for anyone but it’s also recently been voted the number one island destination in the world. There’s no better way to escape the Christmas madness, winter cold, and the stresses of life than staying at the El Nido resorts in Palawan. Philippines is also a very affordable country with accommodating people and very slow and relaxed atmosphere.

2. Gold Coast, Queensland

Gold Coast can easily be described as the Miami of the Asian Pacific. With its beautiful mix city and surf you can get the best of both worlds in a matter of minutes. Not to mention that the Gold coast is also home of the Great Barrier Reef which is one of the natural wonders of the world. Being on the East Coast of Australia it's also connected to the other major cities like Sydney and Melbourne which would make for a brilliant one off major trip.

3. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Fancy going somewhere that is not too cold, but which still has a winter feel? Then look no further than Dubrovnik! Recently thrown into the spotlight for being part of major scenes of the popular television series "Game of Thrones", Dubrovnik has long been a destination of choice. The entire city itself is gazetted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - think about that! Dubrovnik was once the capital of the maritime Republic of Ragusa (rival to the mighty Republic of Venice), and is now one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea.

Simply step into Dubrovnik Old Town, and you will be teleported back in time to the glorious heyday of Ragusa. Dubrovnik's Old Town still looks exactly the same as it looked five hundred years ago, and stands as an architectural masterpiece. Dubrovnik is also famous for its many quaint romantic alleys and streets that provide the perfect setting for restaurants and quiet corners for couples. And as if all that isn't enough, Dubrovnik also offers spectacular views of the Adriatic - perfect for unwinding at the end of a long day.

There's even a hill in Dubrovnik, accessible by cable car, from which you can watch one of the loveliest sunsets in the world. Moreover, winter is generally an off-peak tourist season for Dubrovnik - which means prices are lower and it's the perfect getaway for a peaceful holiday! Indeed, as George Bernard Shaw aptly puts it: "those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik".

4. Soll, SkiWelt, Austria

Europe is generally beautiful in winter time but few places compare to Austria and beautiful Ski resorts and trails. The Soll, Winkelt ski village and resort is one of the premier destinations for skiers and lovers of snow around the world. While the village of Sőll may be small, the après ski isn't. The town really capitalises on its commercial value offering both peace and quiet for the families, and fun and entertainment for the young at heart. With a famous night life and locally made Whiskey this will be one trip you won't forget in a minute.

5. Collingwood, Canada

At times the expression winter wonder land can be played out and overused. Not in the case of Collingwood Ontario though; this place deserves the title and more. It is one of the more family friendly winter destinations because of its communal feel and gentle slopes. It offers many a wide variety of activities for kids, adults or both. that way everyone has fun and can have a break from each other; mom and dad can have some alone time and the kids can explore the safe mountain town. Even if you don’t have kids the place still offers a lot and is not as intimidating as Canada’s bigger ski destinations.

Not a fan of skiing or making a snowman? Well Europe definitely has more than that to offer. Fancy spending christmas and new year’s eve in the most traditional way – Partying through to New Year? Now, check out what prague has to offer before you decide to cross Europe out on your list.

You may also be pleased to know that beer is cheaper than water in most Prague restaurants! Indeed, it's not uncommon to find tourists in Prague who have quit drinking water in favour of drinking beer. Unsurprisingly, there is an extremely strong drinking culture in Prague - indeed, the Czech Republic consumes more beer per capita than any country in the world! No doubt, this means that if you plan to party in Prague, you can be at ease about the booze and know that you'll be able to party real hard.

Whether you are a hot or cold lover, this is a complete guide for you to plan a last minute christmas trip this winter, be it in Europe, Australia, Asia or Canada.
